Seminar Overview
As an overview in our Major Field Trip and Seminar, different companies gave us a good and nice tour inside their building. Some allow us to bring our gadgets inside and some don’t allow us to bring our gadgets for confidentiality and for security purposes.
Day 1
Today I went on a seminar to
SSS (Social Security System)
What I learned?
It began in 1957. It is a government agency that provides retirement and health benefits to all enrolled employees in the Philippines. Members of the SSS can also make 'salary' or 'calamity' loans. Salary loans depend on the monthly salary of the employee. Calamity loans are for such times when there is a calamity that has been so declared by the government, in the area where the SSS member lives, such as flooding, earthquake and natural disasters.
What I liked?
They welcome us, students warmingly. I also like during their discussions they give some souvenirs or prizes to those students who can answer their questions correctly to prove that we listen to their speech.
What I didn’t like?
We didn’t tour the whole building because of the weather.
Day 2
Today I went on a seminar to
Y4IT (SMX Convention Center, Pasay City)
What I learned?
What I learned in this seminar is that one of the speakers shared their experiences and the amazing part of this is this speaker is blind. We were so amazed in her achievements in life and she also share her different and unique ideas during the convention.
What I liked?
What I liked in this convention is when one of the speaker encourages us to make ourown apps and this speaker is Gian Scottie Javelona which is the Founder and CEO of Orange Apps Inc.
What I didn’t like?
What I didn’t like during this convention is that some speakers talk not so clearly that we can’t even understand what did he says and some speakers talk so fast that we can’t even catch what he means to say.
Day 3
Today I went on a seminar to
PLDT, Mandaluyong City
What I learned?
In this company, I learn how to manage their company especially in the smallest thing down to the biggest one. I was also amazed about their advance technology they use in their system during our company tour and also the very amazing and advance technology in the other country when they present to us some video about the advance technology used in the other country. With that, I was inspired to study hard and make my studies good to achieve my goals in life.
What I liked?
What I liked in this company is that they have an isolated room for visitors to test the advance technology they used.
What I didn’t like?
What i didn’t like is that they didn’t allow us to bring camera inside that’s why we don’t have any pictures inside or outside their company.
Today I went on a seminar to
IBM Phils., Ayala Techno, Commonwealth
What I learned?
IBM has been a leading proponent of the Open Source Initiative, and began supporting Linux in 1998. The company invests billions of dollars in services and software based on Linux through the IBM Linux Technology Center, which includes over 300 Linux kernel developers.
What I liked?
IBM holds more patents than any other U.S. based technology company and has eleven research laboratories worldwide. The company has scientists, engineers, consultants, and sales professionals in over 170 countries. IBM employees have earned five Nobel Prizes, four Turing Awards, five National Medals of Technology, and five National Medals of Science.
What I didn’t like?
They have less room for their servers.
Day 4
Today I went on a seminar to
Toshiba Storage Device, Canlubang
What I learned?
I learn what are the other processes on how to make laptops and the lifespan or range of the device they have made.
What I liked?
When we knew that there is a lot of davaowenyos working there and not only that, we also have an alumni working over there and were so proud of that. I also like the tour inside their company because we were given a chance to know what are the processes when they make a laptop.
What I didn’t like?
I didn’t like the speaker which is the Vice President especially when he talks to us because some words are hard to understand.
Day 5
Today I went on a seminar to
MMDA (Traffic Engineering), Mandaluyong
What I learned?
I learned how they manage those everyday accidents happens in Metro Manila. They also taught us some basic safety precautions during and after the earthquake.
What I liked?
What I liked in this company is that they let us try to experience their “Shake, Rattle and Learn House” or what we call the house during earthquake.
What I didn’t like?
What I didn’t like in this company is those accident videos happened everyday in Metro Manila because some accidents were very harsh that the brain of person bursts on the road.
Appendix
What can I recommend for the improvement of the advance seminar program of USEP?
In my own opinion, for the improvement of the advance seminar program of USeP will be the officers should rule their members very tight. The officers should exert more effort to keep their members alert all the time and also to gain their respect. And when there is an announcement to be made, they should not only just post it on a group but also through a text or group message. They should also disseminate the announcements through text because not all the time that all of the members are online although they’re doing that but not all the time.
My advice to those who will take their advance seminar program in the near future.
My advice to those who will take their advance seminar program in the near future is that they should discipline theirselves especially to those students who came late in in their regular class and to those students who aren’t yet independent that they should do their very best to be independent so that he/she will not cause any trouble or problem to the group. They need to save money to lessen the expenses to help their parents in spending money that will be needed for their upcoming Field Trip and Seminar.
They also need to bring and take notes those important details that they have heard from the speaker during their seminar to learn better. They shouldn't their time in doing non-sense things so that they will not regret in the future. They should also pay attention to the speakers during seminar to get some advice, ideas, inspiration or motivation to help them to transform into a non-ordinary student. Last but not the least is that they should also enjoy the rest of their time by taking pictures, to have a bonding with old and new friends to make wonderful memories.
